I go to Modesto today to meet with the dairy association about employee handbooks. I like Modesto. It is a nice town, and in recent years they have really upgraded the downtown.
It is going to be nice today, but supposedly a big storm is coming tomorrow. We are having a toad population explosion this spring which is fun, but they get trapped in the pool.
Lst night was the first band board meeting and apparently those who were not elected are butthurt, and lots of people hate each other. Typical parent organization. They are not going to enjoy me. Last year’s chaperone coordinator was upset that I pointed out when the chaperones are bullying each other and end up in tears, something is very wrong. (She ended up in tears at the one event I chaperoned, and she was supposed to be leading the chaperones . After that I just volunteered for fundraising.). I do not think I made a friend with this tiger mom.
Oh, Oppo, I have a feeling my time on this Board will be reminiscent of the reign of Cersei Lannister on Game of Thrones. Blood and tears, and ultimately, futility.

You should take the Bullet Train to Modesto.
I cannot read your post about the Band Parents and not grin broadly. I hope that you can enjoy upending the status quo.
Did you drive the Golf yesterday?

PS: I think it’s great that your pool has a turbocharger.

I visited Modesto almost 20 years ago and found it pretty nice even back then. But after a few days in SF, I was thankful just to not be dodging feces on the sidewalk. It’s all relative.
Actually, my first job offer out of college was doing logistics for Gallo Wines — I turned it down because it was one of those “management training programs” where they take college grads and pay them near-minimum wage to ride around in a truck for a year. I call those the “
Intentional Burnout Programs
for Cheap, Overskilled Labor”

At least it’s toads and not snakes. When I had a job cleaning pools, it didn’t take long to learn to wait a bit after popping the skimmer basket cover off, especially at houses adjacent to a golf course. Living things I saw caught in the basket included frogs and snakes. Dead things included toads, birds, and rabbits. It was the snakes that always made me jump back. It was usually a harmless snake, but I’ve also seen a water moccasin in a skimmer basket.

ImmoralMinority is here to thump some parent skulls and chew bubble gum, and he’s all out of bubble gum.

My wife got elected as VP on our daughter’s elementary school PTO last year. Then we realized that she was unwittingly part of a “coup d’etat ” that booted the long time president and replaced her with a lawyer who doesn’t even have a child at the school anymore. She promptly and gracefully resigned the next day.
Damn attorneys.
